The Climate Change Community Tracker Fellowship Cohort II brought together 17 young people from Apa and Agatu Local Government Areas who are engaging with climate change as a lived challenge that shapes peace, livelihoods, and community stability.

The fellowship began with a seven-week virtual learning phase, where fellows examined how climate change intersects with security, education, and local economies in Apa–Agatu. The focus was on building practical capacity and strengthening skills in leadership, advocacy, community organizing, project design, and ethical storytelling that can support informed action at the grassroots level.

Fellows participated in learning sessions on peacebuilding, citizen journalism, countering disinformation, innovation in storytelling, and African-centered reporting. Their learning was deepened through guided reading and reflection on selected texts, including How to Write About Africa by Binyavanga Wainaina, The Nobodies by Eduardo Galeano, Long Walk to Freedom by Nelson Mandela, and Letter from Birmingham Jail by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. These works challenged fellows to think critically about justice, power, and the responsibility of narrators within society.

The fellowship advanced into a fully funded three-day physical bootcamp in Abuja, Nigeria, ensuring that all selected fellows could participate without financial barriers. This in-person phase translated learning into experience through field exposure to practical climate solutions. Fellows visited HUSK Power Systems in Nasarawa State, where decentralized renewable energy supports households, jobs, and local enterprise. They also engaged with Eco Barter, where women convert plastic waste into useful products, demonstrating circular economy models driven by community innovation.

A focused interaction with Habiba Ali, Founder of Sosai Energy, offered insights into clean energy leadership and implementation across Nigeria, including Benue State. These engagements opened pathways for experiential learning, with selected fellows securing internship placements at Sosai Energy and HUSK Power Systems.

Additionally, we had the honor of receiving Hon. David Olofu the former Commissioner of Finance for Benue State, 2015-2023. He encouraged the fellows to hold on to what is possible, reminding them that the future belongs to those who dare to dream and achieve.

Beyond training and exposure, Cohort II emphasizes practical applications. Each fellow is expected to design and implement a community-based initiative that advances climate awareness, peacebuilding, responsible storytelling, and sustainable practices across Apa–Agatu.

The Climate Change Community Tracker Fellowship Cohort II is cultivating a network of young people who understand their context, value accuracy, and are prepared to act. Through learning, practice, and community engagement, they are contributing to a more informed, resilient, and climate-aware Apa–Agatu.

To understand the challenges within our education system and collaboratively shape a sustainable way forward, we convened a Stakeholders Meeting with all school principals across Apa–Agatu, both public and private institutions.

This meeting brought together educational leaders from across the constituency to discuss key issues affecting teaching, learning, student performance, infrastructure gaps, and the preparedness of young people for future opportunities.

The goal was simple yet urgent: to listen, to learn, and to build a unified strategy that strengthens education across Apa–Agatu.

Through open dialogue, principals shared insights on the realities faced in their schools, from inadequate facilities and learning materials to the need for more teacher support and digital literacy among students.

This engagement marks an important step toward designing practical solutions that improve educational outcomes and ensure that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality learning.

By working directly with school leaders, we are building a stronger foundation for the future of our youth and our constituency.

This partnership-driven approach will guide our interventions as we continue to shape a more inclusive and effective education system in Apa–Agatu.

In Antagayi Community, we launched a vital initiative aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable farmers, widows, and older women who form the backbone of the area’s agricultural workforce. These women work tirelessly to feed their families and sustain the community, often with limited resources and little external support.

To strengthen their farming efforts, we implemented a structured herbicide distribution program, with a dedicated team of thirteen members ensuring smooth, organized, and transparent delivery. Bottles of herbicide were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Each bottle distributed represents more than just a farming input; it is a symbol of recognition, solidarity, and commitment to empowering the women who keep Antagayi’s farmlands productive.

This initiative showcased the power of community support and our dedication to enhancing agricultural livelihoods. By equipping these women with essential tools, we are enabling them to continue cultivating their land, improving yields, and sustaining their households.

We remain committed to lifting up the hands that feed our communities.

As part of the International Youth Day of Service, the Oloko Community witnessed an inspiring display of unity, purpose, and youthful leadership. This event has left a lasting impact on the community.

Under the leadership of Apochi Nelson Owoicho and a dedicated team of volunteers, the day focused on two key initiatives:

1. The construction of a mini playground, and
2. A series of community-building games.

The playground project was more than the installation of swings and slides. It was an investment in the future of Oloko’s children — creating a safe, joyful, and engaging space where they can play, learn, and build friendships. It symbolizes hope, growth, and the belief that every child deserves a vibrant environment to thrive.

At the same time, the community games brought residents of all ages together in a spirit of excitement and shared joy. The laughter, cheers, and fellowship that filled the air highlighted the power of play as a tool for strengthening relationships and fostering social cohesion.

This was not just a one-day event. It was a testament to the transformative potential of youth engagement, leaving behind improved infrastructure, strengthened community bonds, and renewed energy within Oloko.

The message was clear: Young people are not only the leaders of tomorrow; they are agents of change today.
