In Antagayi Community, we launched a vital initiative aimed at supporting some of the most vulnerable farmers, widows, and older women who form the backbone of the area’s agricultural workforce. These women work tirelessly to feed their families and sustain the community, often with limited resources and little external support.

To strengthen their farming efforts, we implemented a structured herbicide distribution program, with a dedicated team of thirteen members ensuring smooth, organized, and transparent delivery. Bottles of herbicide were distributed to the beneficiaries.

Each bottle distributed represents more than just a farming input; it is a symbol of recognition, solidarity, and commitment to empowering the women who keep Antagayi’s farmlands productive.

This initiative showcased the power of community support and our dedication to enhancing agricultural livelihoods. By equipping these women with essential tools, we are enabling them to continue cultivating their land, improving yields, and sustaining their households.

We remain committed to lifting up the hands that feed our communities.

The Ugbobi community experienced a devastating tragedy last year when herders set the village ablaze, displacing more than 200 residents and leaving families without food, shelter, and access to basic healthcare. This destruction created an urgent crisis that demanded a compassionate and coordinated response.

The Christmas Cookout and Medical Outreach was created to meet that need to offer relief, restore hope, and send a clear message to Ugbobi: You are not forgotten.

Our outreach combined medical support, meal distribution, clothing donations, and uplifting activities designed to strengthen spirits and rebuild community bonds. We believe deeply that when one person suffers, we all feel the impact and it is our shared responsibility to respond with compassion and action.

Medical Outreach

The day began with a comprehensive medical outreach where our dedicated team provided care to 271 individuals, including:

• 196 adults
• 75 children
• 12 pregnant women

Services offered included:

• General medical consultations
• Dispensing of essential medications
• Health education and counseling
• Blood pressure and pulse checks
• Treatment of minor injuries

The impact was immediate and profound. Grateful smiles, tears of relief, and sincere expressions of thanks reflected just how critical this intervention was for a community with limited access to healthcare.

Meal Distribution

We then served over 1,500 nutritious meals, offering many children their first proper meal in days. The sight of families sharing food under the shade of trees was a powerful reminder of resilience and the strength of communal solidarity.

Clothing Distribution

Next, we distributed clothing to 240 men, women, and children. Each item represented more than warmth or protection; it symbolized dignity, renewal, and a reminder that the community is seen, valued, and supported.

Community Activities

To uplift spirits, the event also featured:

• Fun games
• Live painting
• Face painting for children

Laughter returned to Ugbobi as children, brightened with colorful designs, played freely. Adults joined in with genuine smiles — moments of joy long absent from the community.

A Declaration of Solidarity and Hope

This outreach, led by the Apa–Agatu Development Project, was far more than a charitable act. It was a bold declaration of resilience, unity, and shared humanity.

The tangible outcomes were clear:

• Improved health
• Nourished families
• Clothing for those in need

But the deeper impact was even more meaningful. We helped rekindle a sense of community in Ugbobi. Neighbors who had been isolated by fear and hardship reconnected. And the sound of children’s laughter, once missing, returned to fill the village air.

For our volunteers, this experience reaffirmed our unwavering commitment: to stand with our people, to bring hope where it has faded, and to continue building a future where no community is left behind.

Usha Medical Outreach, Usha Community

In the wake of the recent attacks across Apa–Agatu, thousands of families have seen their lives upended, homes destroyed, livelihoods shattered, and access to necessities severely limited. Communities that once thrived now struggle to secure essential services, including healthcare, food, water, clothing, shelter, and safety.

In response to this urgent need, we launched the Usha Medical Outreach in February 2024 to provide immediate relief and restore hope.

Working closely with young people across Apa–Agatu, our team delivered essential medical care, hot meals, and critical relief materials, including clothing and hygiene items, to more than 500 people, many of them women and children.

Our Impact at a Glance

• 50+ volunteers dedicated their time and energy

This effort demonstrated the strength of our community and the power of collective action. We remain committed to supporting affected families and will continue to stand with every community in Apa–Agatu during this difficult time.

We conducted a mini medical outreach in Otakpa, Apa Local Government, Benue State, with the intention of delivering essential healthcare support to those who need it most, especially the elderly and vulnerable. In many of these communities, access to basic healthcare remains out of reach for countless families, making this intervention a crucial lifeline while we continue advocating for stronger, more accessible health systems.

During the outreach, our team of medical professionals provided a range of services, including:

• Free health check-ups for over 10 pregnant women
• Health screenings for elderly women and men
• Medication for children experiencing headaches, stomachaches, toothaches, chest pain, and other common ailments

In total, more than 50 people received medical attention during the program.

Beyond treatment, our medical team also spent time educating pregnant women on maintaining a healthy pregnancy, answering their questions, and offering guidance on vital prenatal care practices.

This outreach reaffirmed our commitment to ensuring that no one in our communities is left without support and that even the most vulnerable have access to the care they deserve.

The Apa–Agatu Conversation is an annual gathering designed to inspire purposeful action, strengthen community bonds, and foster personal growth across the Apa–Agatu region. Last year, the event expanded significantly, taking place in three locations: Makurdi, Abuja, and Ugbokpo and reaching a large audience both online and offline.

At its core, the Apa–Agatu community continues to embody the principle of “building with what you have.” This mindset has driven our collective progress since the inception of the conversation, and it remains a guiding force for our development efforts.

This year’s theme, Building Self and Community Through Small Actions, emphasized the power of simple, deliberate steps in creating lasting change. The conversation highlighted how sustainable progress often begins with everyday acts of courage, leadership, and collaboration.

The event featured rich discussions on:

• Community empowerment
• Personal development
• Practical strategies for driving change
• Opportunities for collaboration and collective action

Attendees had the opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen networks, and explore ways to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Apa–Agatu.

With over 300 participants online and more than 60 attending in person, this edition of the Apa–Agatu Conversation reinforced a growing movement of individuals committed to lifting our communities one purposeful action at a time.

Together, we continue to build a stronger, more united Apa–Agatu.
